OnePlus 12R: is it still worth buying?
The OnePlus 12R is due to get its successor in the coming months. The OnePlus 13R will be arriving as a rebranded OnePlus Ace 3 that the brand is already preparing to release in China next month.
OnePlus 12R pros and cons
Pros | Cons |
Excellent display | Average wide-angle and macro cameras |
Smooth performance | Only three major software updates |
Superb battery life and charging |
The OnePlus 12R is still a capable phone although its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is now a two-year old processor. It has a curved OLED display with 4,500 nits peak brightness for better outdoor visibility and a 120Hz LTPO refresh rate for smooth animations. The triple camera setup consists of a 50MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, and 2MP macro sensors. The phone is backed by a 5,000mAh battery cell with support for 100W fast charging.
There are plenty of smartphones as an alternative to the OnePlus 12R that come with similar or enhanced chipsets and other specifications.
Phone | Starting price | AnTuTu score | Geekbench single-core | Geekbench multi-core |
Xiaomi 14 Civi | Rs 40,999 | 14,43,011 | 1,913 | 5,087 |
Realme GT 6 | Rs 40,839 | 15,01,830 | 1,826 | 4,544 |
Vivo V40 | Rs 34,999 | 8,10,653 | 1,164 | 3,216 |
OnePlus 12R | Rs 39,999 | 14,73,559 | 1,066 | 4,311 |
The OnePlus 12R has one of the higher benchmark scores compared to its competitors at launch, and with the discount on offer, the deal becomes even sweeter. At the discounted price, it’s competing with premium mid-rangers like Vivo V40, Vivo T3 Ultra and Realme 13 Pro+. While the 12R definitely offers the advantage of sub-flagship specifications at a premium mid-range price, do bear in mind that the phone is one generation old. It also lacks AI features which most current-gen phones now come with. Couple it with the fact that the phone will only get three software upgrades and you have something to think about. If longevity is not your concern, then you can definitely go for the deal; else think about shelling a few extra bucks and considering the OnePlus 13R instead when it arrives.
