OnePlus 10 Pro users claim dead motherboard issues, repairs costing up to Rs 42,000: report | Tech Tips
OnePlus phones are among the most popular Android flagships in markets like India. The launched its OnePlus 12 series in the country earlier this year and OnePlus Nord 4 series recently. The devices have been praised for their price-to-performance ratio, but a major problem with OnePlus has been the hardware reliability. Previously, the users reported green line issues, and the company took action to provide support, but now a new hardware failure is being reported.
OnePlus 10 Pro motherboard issue
An X (formerly Twitter) user shared posts from the OnePlus Community highlighting multiple motherboard failure issues that OnePlus 10 Pro users are posting about. One user also reported the same for the OnePlus 9 Pro, indicating that the issue is not limited to a specific model.
One consumer reported that his OnePlus 10 Pro “suddenly turned off one afternoon,” leaving him with “a black screen and no response.” Upon visiting the service centre, he was told by the technicians that the phone’s motherboard was unresponsive.
Another buyer confirmed that the service centre quoted above “Rs 42,000” cost for the motherboard replacement and claimed that the issue isn’t due to a software update. However, the store manager did offer only a 10 percent discount on the repair.
POCO and Redmi are some of the brands that have been embroiled in the motherboard failure issues with devices bricking post a software update. While Xiaomi acknowledged and worked on the issues after multiple reports, we’re yet to get a statement from OnePlus.
OnePlus has a comparatively good track record when it comes to dealing with QC issues, as the brand is offering a lifetime free screen replacement and vouchers for any old OnePlus model that faces the green line issue. It’s yet to be seen whether more users will come forward with this issue and if it will become a bigger problem for the Chinese brand.
