Instagram now lets you share live location in India; adds new stickers, nicknames | Tech Tips
Instagram DM (Direct Messenger) has been updated with a new set of features. There are 17 new sticker packs, an updated DM sticker tray, and nicknames that you can set yourself and your group. Instagram has also added live location sharing and the ability to share your current location. Here’s a detailed look at all the new Instagram features.
Live location sharing on Instagram
- You can share your live location through Instagram DM for up to one hour. You can also pin a spot on the map so your friend can see your current location.
- Live location sharing works in 1:1 and group chats but only for an hour. It will expire after that and the feature is turned off by default. Understandably, your location can’t be forwarded to other chats.
- Instagram will show an indicator on top of your chat so you know you’re sharing your live location. You can always turn it off whenever you want.
- This feature will be available in select countries but Instagram hasn’t specified which ones. Live location sharing is available in India.
Nicknames in Instagram DM
Instagram has added the ability to add nicknames for yourself and your friends in DM. These nicknames are different from your username and will appear only in your chats. You can change your nickname anytime and others too. Instagram also lets you decide who can change your nickname within a chat. This option will be set to people you follow by default but you can change this.
