Honor MagicOS 9.0 with focus on AI unveiled: rollout timeline and compatible phones

Honor Magic OS 9.0 based on the Android 15 upgrade has been officially unveiled in China. As with most custom skins these days, the new upgraded OS from Honor also focuses on AI features. The Honor MagicOS 9.0 public beta has been announced for certain existing phones on the stage and confirmed the stable will start rolling out at some point in November for flagships and gradually expand to more phones in the subsequent months.

Honor MagicOS 9.0 unveiled

Honor MagicOS 9.0 is claimed to be the industry’s first all-scenario personalised AI operating system.
The new update brings the brand’s new proprietary MagicLM lineup and an upgraded YOYO AI assistant.
Honor MagicOS 9.0 leverages LLMs (Large Language Models) to enhance its device-level AI capabilities. It utilises the three billion parameter LLM.
Apparently, the new OS has achieved an 80 percent reduction in power consumption, a 77 percent increase in the loading speed, and a 500 percent increase in word output speed.
Honor claims the new OS reduces 1.8GB and 1.6GB of usage in ROM and RAM usage, respectively.
MagicOS 9.0 brings an intuitive animation engine, which offers smooth animations while app switching and information viewing. The dynamic effects make the interactions natural and fluid.

AI features

AI Notes: This feature automatically transcribes meeting minutes and supports multiple languages and dialects.
AI Document: This feature offers document Q&A, paper comparison, and one-click mind mapping, along with AI-assisted writing.
AI Translate: This will automatic language detection for seamless translation and communication.

YOYO AI Assistant

Honor has included an upgraded version of its YOYO AI Assistant in the MagicOS 9.0 update. The company explains that this AI Agent will offer four core capabilities and can understand different usage scenarios like user behaviour, habit learning, and scenario perception. It is said to offer better decision-making abilities in addition to improved in-app and cross-app operations.

This is said to understand and execute the user request like a real-life assistant. It can make requests automatically for users with just a single prompt. Users can also make long requests using just a single command.

Others

The company’s face-swap detection is capable of detecting fraudulent AI-altered videos in real time. You can simply circle the content with your knuckles to instantly access related services using HONOR Anydoor. Honor is also bringing new features to the Magic Portal and Smart Capsule functionalities. The latter can now offer information like weather alerts, medical appointments, or face-swap detection, all without interrupting your workflow.

The AI Photo Editor can remove unwanted images, restore old or damaged photos, expand images and apply AI-powered filters. The new OS brings over 20 lock screen styles, including 3D and anime for more customisation.
