NVIDIA joins hands with Reliance to build biggest AI infrastructure in India | Tech Tips
At the NVIDIA AI Summit in Mumbai on October 24th, the company announced its partnership with Reliance Industries to build a large-scale AI infrastructure in India. Reliance will deploy NVIDIA’s latest GB 200 supercomputer to make the AI infrastructure. With this partnership, Reliance wants to do the same thing with AI that Jio did with mobile data. Let’s check out how this partnership could potentially benefit the AI space in India.
After mobile data, Mukesh Ambani’s next target is AI
Reliance Industries and Nvidia announced a partnership to build large-scale AI infrastructure in India, aiming to enhance the country’s AI capabilities. During a discussion at the Nvidia AI Summit in Mumbai, Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani revealed plans to deploy Nvidia’s GB 200 supercomputer technology, creating scalable AI infrastructure.
Moreover, Mukesh Ambani emphasised India’s potential to go beyond domestic AI needs and become a major exporter of AI services, envisioning “hundreds of millions” of Indians contributing to the global AI landscape.
The collaboration intends to make AI affordable and widely accessible across India, similar to Jio’s success in reducing mobile data costs. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang agreed, highlighting India’s shift from software to AI exports and announcing a partnership between Reliance and NVIDIA to build AI infrastructure in India.
Huang noted that India has all the essentials for AI leadership: data, AI models, infrastructure, and a large population of users. Both leaders praised Prime Minister Modi’s digital transformation initiatives, with Ambani seeing India on the brink of a “new intelligence age.”
This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision for India to add value to its data and develop indigenous AI capabilities. Both leaders also discussed using open-source AI models, like Meta’s Llama, to empower Indian developers in building AI for Indian languages.
