Google Pixel 9a is the next smartphone to look forward to from the tech giant. Like previous models, the Pixel 9a will be an affordable alternative to the flagship Pixel 9 series. Google usually launches the Pixel ‘a’ series in May during the I/O conference but leaks suggest it might go for an early release next year. The Pixel 9a is said to launch in March 2025.

• Google is reportedly planning to launch the Pixel 9a in March and not May. Pre-orders will begin in mid-March 2025 with shipping and in-store availability to take place before the end of the month, according to a report by Android Headlines. 
• This isn’t entirely surprising as Google did release the Pixel 9 series much earlier this year. It was launched in August instead of the usual October launch.
• Google might be changing its launch cycle with Android 16 also reportedly arriving early in 2025. 

Google Pixel 9a: what we know so far

Colour options for the Pixel 9a were recently leaked online. The Pixel 9a is said to come in Porcelain, Obsidian, Peony and Iris colours. We’ve already seen the Pixel 9 in Peony so it will most likely be the same shade. The Iris colour variant will reportedly be a bluish-purple shade. 

In comparison to the Pixel 8a, the Pixel 9a is expected to be taller and wider measuring 154 x 73 x 8.8mm. The Pixel 8a measures 152.1 x 72.7 x 8.9 mm. Leaked renders also showed the camera module will not stand out like it does in the Pixel 9 series. It will instead blend with the rear panel and not protrude causing a very thick camera placement at the back. 

The Pixel 9a is expected to be powered by the Google Tensor G4 chipset, which is also found in the flagship models. We’re expecting similar specs in other areas as well but with compromises in possibly the build quality and cameras.
