All iPhone 16 models reportedly support 45W charging, but Apple didn’t mention this during the launch event | Tech Tips
During the iPhone 16 series launch event on Monday, Apple revealed several upgrades that the new models offer over the iPhone 15 lineup, including a new Camera Capture button, an Action button on the base models, faster processors, and so on. And while Apple vaguely mentioned that the new iPhone 16 models offer longer battery life, they curiously left out the charging speed. This is particularly interesting as fresh reports suggest the iPhone 16 models support up to 45W charging, over 50% faster than the iPhone 15 series.
iPhone 16 series fast charging details
China’s National Quality Certification results of iPhone 16 reveal 45W wired charging support. This was spotted by WhyLab (on Weibo, via ShrimpApplePro on X). Find the screenshots of the test results of iPhone 16 (A3288), iPhone 16 Plus (A3291), iPhone 16 Pro (A3294), and iPhone 16 Pro Max (A3297).
This is about 50 percent faster than the iPhone 15 series, which supports up to 29W charging speeds.
Apple doesn’t disclose the charging speeds on its website or in any of its communication with the media or public. Notably, Apple chose to avoid mentioning the bump in charging speeds during the iPhone 16 keynote.
The support page for the iPhone 15 series says the phones can juice up to “50 percent battery in around 30 minutes” with a 20W Apple USB-C Power Adapter. But, that isn’t still indicative of the supported charging speed.
We will have to wait and see how quickly the new iPhones charge at 45W. That said, if this is indeed true, 45W charging speed support was a much-needed upgrade. Android OEMs have been offering superior fast-charging solutions for a while now, with some unveiling solutions as high as 320W.
