Xiaomi 15 series launch date revealed, will come with new flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset | Tech Tips

The Xiaomi 15 series launch date has been officially revealed along with the chipset they’ll pack. The Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro will be debuting on October 23rd and will be powered by the next flagship SoC from Qualcomm. The chipset was originally believed to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 but the latest teaser poster shared by the brand confirms the SoC will be called the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite. 

Snapdragon 8 Elite and not Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

• It appears that Qualcomm is streamlining the Mobile Platform naming structure with that of the laptop processor, Snapdragon X Elite.
• The naming was initially leaked by DigitalChatStation and the latest promotional material confirms it.

• Previously, the name was shifted from a triple-numbered system (Snapdragon 888) to the current Gen series and going forward to the 8 Elite.
• Xiaomi 15 series will be the first to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite, which will be debuting at the Snapdragon Summit 2024 scheduled between October 21-23rd.
• The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite is expected to be based on TSMC’s 3nm process and will feature two performance cores at 4.0GHz and six efficiency cores at 2.8GHz. 
• The Snapdragon 8 Elite will use Qualcomm’s custom Oryon architecture.

Xiaomi 15 series: what we know so far

The Xiaomi 15 series will be debuting in China first and gradually expand to other markets globally, possibly India as well. 

• Display: The Xiaomi 15 series is expected to come with a 2K OLED micro-curved display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The Pro variant could get a taller 6.74-inch screen, while the vanilla might have a smaller screen.
• Processor: The phones will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipsets. In comparison, the predecessors came with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
• Cameras: The Xiaomi 15 Pro could feature a 50MP OmniVision OV50K primary camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP Sony IMX8-series periscope telephoto camera with up to 5x optical zoom. The Xiaomi 15 may also get a similar combination.
• The Xiaomi 14 Pro has a 50MP Light Fusion 900 sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 50MP 3.2X telephoto camera.
• Battery: The Xiaomi 15 Pro might get a large 6,000mAh battery, which is a jump from 4880mAh cell on the Xiaomi 14 Pro. There will be 90W fast charging. The vanilla model could get a 5000mAh cell.
