WhatsApp introduces new calling features on mobile and desktop

WhatsApp will soon allow users to create photo polls, chat events; feature currently in beta | Tech Tips

Highlights
  • WhatsApp is developing a new feature allowing users to add photos to poll options.
  • On the other hand, the platform is also working on another feature to let users create events in individual chats.
  • These WhatsApp features are currently available for beta testers and are expected to roll out soon for more users.

Following the rollout of new WhatsApp stickers, calling effects and more features in December 2024, the messaging platform is planning to bring new features to make the platform more interactive and engaging. While WhatsApp has yet to officially reveal the features, a new report suggests it might soon announce two new features, including photo polls and chat events. Here’s more about the yet-to-be-announced WhatsApp features.

WhatsApp new features

  • As per a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to add photos to poll options, which will be available in a future update.
  • Notably, channel owners will be able to assign a photo to each poll option. This will give voters a visual representation of each choice, helping them make decisions more easily.
  • When a photo is added to one poll option, it will be required to add photos to all other options as well, ensuring uniformity across the poll.
  • This feature will be initially available only to channel owners. However, WhatsApp plans to extend it to group chats and individual conversations in the future.
  • On the other hand, the website also notes that WhatsApp will soon let users create events in individual chats.
  • These private chat events will work similarly to events created in group chats, maintaining consistency across the platform.
  • Users will need to provide an event name, date, and an optional description. They can also set an end date, add a location, and link an audio or video call for virtual meetings.
  • Once the event is created, the recipient can choose to accept or decline the invitation.

It is worth noting that both features are currently available for beta users and are expected to be available to all users in the coming weeks. Notably, the reverse image search feature is also available on the WhatsApp Web beta, as reported a few days ago. The feature is expected to be available to more users in a future update. Stay tuned for more updates.
