Snapdragon 8s Elite release and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 production timelines, specs tipped | Tech Tips
Qualcomm made a major splash with its Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC announcement. The chip had notable under-the-hood design changes and a major performance boost. So, there’s an obvious excitement for its successors. A few days back we came across a tip about the Snapdragon 8s Elite (Gen 4) launch timeline and the phone it could debut with. Now, a different tipster has claimed the same timeline and its core design details. Moreover, we also have a fresh tip about the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 production plans and processes. Check out both below:
Snapdragon 8s Elite (Gen 4) release timeline, core design
Tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) claimed via Weibo that the Snapdragon 8s Elite (Gen 4) could have the model number SM8735. As we hypothesised before, this could be a successor to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 but rather than calling it 8s Gen 4, Qualcomm could use the Elite branding. DCS corroborates this.
He adds the Snapdragon 8s Elite performance could fall between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 8 Gen 2.
We also learned the first phones with Snapdragon 8s Elite could arrive in April 2025 and some of these phones could feature a 7000± mAh battery. This could be due to the higher power consumption by the chip. But, that’s just an early guess. Price-wise, these could be affordable flagships.
Now, the same tipster had previously claimed that Xiaomi could be the first to debut a Snapdragon 8s Elite phone. Let’s see.
Meanwhile, tipster Yogesh Brar expects this chip to arrive with a Snapdragon 7+ SoC (model number SM7775) in March 2025 (Q1).
They may use Arm Cortex cores instead of the Nuvia Oryon cores that were introduced with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Soc.
However, that won’t be the case with the actual Snapdragon 8 Elite successor:
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 production plans, processes
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 will pack Qualcomm’s own Oryon cores. Tipster DCS claims that these cores will be arranged in TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process node called N3P. This will be an upgrade over the TSMC second-generation 3nm process N3E, that was used in Snapdragon 8 Elite.
The new chip could get a 20 percent performance uptick thanks to upgraded cores. That’s fine but not as impressive as the 40 percent jump we saw from Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to the Elite.
Qualcomm could possibly change its focus to improved efficiency with measures like an in-built single-frame-level power consumption reduction technology. In time we shall know. Stay tuned for more updates about these chips!
