Samsung has a few rugged devices in its portfolio with the Galaxy XCover7 being its latest product. A new report suggests that Samsung is working on two rugged devices — a smartphone and a tablet. The devices in question could be the Galaxy XCover 8 Pro and Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro.

Samsung is also reportedly considering dropping the ‘Galaxy’ branding for its premium smartphone lineup. We might see a new branding from Samsung soon. Let’s take a detailed look at Samsung’s latest developments.

Two new Samsung rugged devices in the works

  • According to a report by GalaxyClub, Samsung is testing a device with the model number SM-G766B, which is believed to be the next-gen Galaxy XCover smartphone.
  • The Galaxy XCover 6 Pro had the model number SM-G736B, while the XCover 7 has the model number SM-G556B suggesting that the new device in testing belongs to the same family.
  • It’s reportedly called the Galaxy XCover Pro 8 and this smartphone is tipped to launch in mid-2025.
  • The report adds that Samsung is working on a new Galaxy Tab Active model as well. Internally, the device is being called the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro but it will reportedly launch as the Tab Active 6 Pro.
  • Like the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro, this tablet is also expected to launch somewhere around mid-2025. It would be an upgrade over the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5 5G that launched earlier this year.

Samsung to drop ‘Galaxy’ branding

Samsung is reportedly planning to drop the ‘Galaxy’ branding for its premium smartphone lineup. The report comes from the South Korean publication E-Today, which says that Samsung is discussing launching a new brand for its premium smartphone lineup. This would be a major change as Samsung has been launching all its smartphones, tablets, and other devices under the ‘Galaxy’ branding for more than a decade.
