Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra aka S26 Note may bring a significant periscope telephoto lens upgrade | Tech Tips
Samsung Galaxy S25 series will make its debut at the Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22nd i.e. tomorrow. Ahead of the announcement, We are already coming across leaks regarding next year’s flagships, the Galaxy S26 lineup. It is said the South Korean giant might adopt ‘silicon-carbon’ battery technology for the next-gen models. Now, the latest leak coming out from Weibo claims that Samsung is evaluating a 200MP periscope telephoto camera.
Samsung’s 200MP periscope telephoto camera
- Going into details, tipster DigitalChatStation on Weibo says that Samsung has begun evaluating a 200MP periscope telephoto camera with a 1/1.5-inch type.
- In comparison, the Vivo X200 Pro’s 200MP periscope telephoto is a 1/1.4-inch type.
- While DCS hasn’t explicitly mentioned it, there are speculations that this sensor could be used on the next flagship, the Galaxy S26 Ultra aka S26 Note.
- In comparison, the Galaxy S24 Ultra features a 50MP telephoto lens with a 5x zoom and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is also rumoured to house a similar setup.
- Furthermore, the tipster adds this could be the next popular trend and that out of five flagships coming this year, three will house a 200MP telephoto lens.
- Although it is said that Samsung is evaluating, there are chances the brand may decide against including the 200MP periscope telephoto sensor in the final hardware. We suggest you take this early leak with a pinch of salt for the moment.
A recent leak claimed that Samsung’s flagships could see a change in naming style. It is said that the Ultra variant could be branded as Note, while the Plus would be called ‘Pro’. If this pans out, the next flagships from Samsung could be Galaxy S26 Note and Galaxy S26 Pro. The Galaxy S26 name could remain as is.
Furthermore, Samsung is also reportedly working on adopting the new silicon-carbon battery technology for its next flagships, presumably the Galaxy S26 series. This could help Samsung include large-capacity battery capacities, while not bulking up the design. There are also rumours that the South Korean giant is bringing display upgrades by applying the ‘Colour-filter-on-thin-film-encapsulation’ (CoE) technology to the 2026 Ultra flagship to reduce the thickness and increase the light transmittance.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 series could be in the early stages of development and may launch globally and in India around January 2026 much like its predecessors.
