Samsung Galaxy S26 series tipped to adopt silicon-carbon battery technology | Tech Tips
The premium Samsung Galaxy S25 series is set to debut on January 22nd at the ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event. Even before they go official, we started hearing about the 2026 flagships, called the Galaxy S26 series. Recently, the display upgrades of the S26 Ultra were reported. Now, in the latest development, the battery tech of the flagships has leaked online.
Samsung Galaxy S26 series battery
- Going into details, Samsung’s next year’s flagship lineup, the Galaxy S26 series is said to use a silicon-carbon battery, as per Jukanlosreve citing Ice Universe on Weibo.
- The Silicon-carbon batteries have higher energy density compared to traditional Li-ion batteries. This technology is said to be a lot safer as it has a lower risk of overheating.
- Smartphone brands have started moving towards silicon-carbon batteries for their flagships/premium models. This allowed to increase the battery capacities (for example from 5,000/5,500mAh cell to 6,000mAh and above) without bulking up the phone’s design.
- Initially, it was reported that Samsung would use ‘stacked battery technology’ which reportedly improves the energy density by 10 percent. But it looks like there seems to be a change in plans.
- How likely is the rumour going to pan out is something we need to wait and watch but using silicon-carbon technology will be a notable upgrade on the Galaxy S26 series, if implemented.
Besides the battery upgrade, a recent leak said that Samsung will apply the ‘Colour-filter-on-thin-film-encapsulation’ (CoE) technology to the 2026 Ultra flagship. The company has been using this technology on its foldable from the Galaxy Z Fold 3 to Z Fold 6. This is said to replace the polariser plates in an OLED with a colour filter and change the general Pixel Define Layer (PDL) to a black one. This is said to help in reducing the thickness of the screen, while also increasing the light transmittance.
