OnePlus 13 anti-theft feature allows you to locate the phone even when its turned off | Tech Tips

The OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R debuted globally yesterday. Both phones come with significant upgrades compared to their predecessors. Among the many notable upgrades, the latest number series flagship now comes with offline device tracking. This feature makes it easier to find the phone if it gets lost or stolen and is switched off. OnePlus did not explicitly reveal the Find My Device’s Powered Off Finding functionality at the launch event but Android Authority discovered that it is indeed present on the OnePlus 13.

OnePlus 13 can be tracked even when it’s shut down

• Google updated its Find My Device service last year with tons of features.
• The offline tracking support is only available on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series.
• Now, the OnePlus 13 has become the only non-Pixel device that can be located when it is powered off.
• This means that you can track the location if you forget your phone somewhere and it runs out of battery.
• Additionally, turning off a smartphone is a common practice followed by thieves in order to avoid getting caught.
• Android Authority shared images which shows a message that reads ‘You can locate this phone with ‘Find My Device’ even when powered off” in its power menu.

• The additional information in the Find My Device network settings confirm that the OnePlus 13 supports Powered Off Finding. 
• This feature is possible because of the Snapdragon 8 Elite and FastConnect 7900 platform that are present on the smartphone. The latter is the latest connectivity subsystem that supports offline tracking. 
• It works with the help of a Bluetooth module that transmits its location to other devices on the Find My network
• Hence you will be able to find your lost or stolen OnePlus 13 for several hours after its turned off. 
• It’s also why the OnePlus 13R and older OnePlus flagships lack the nifty feature. 

The Powered Off Finding feature in the Find My Device is similar to Apple’s Find My network. If the device has the neccessary hardware, it’s up to the OEM to implement and enable the feature. You can read about the OnePlus 13 series here.
