Nothing Phone (2) receives Android 15-based Nothing OS 3.0 open beta update | Tech Tips
The Nothing Phone (2) has received the Android 15-based Nothing OS 3.0 open beta update. The Nothing Phone (2a) was the first phone in the company’s lineup to get Android 15 open beta, but the update is now available on its flagship offering too. The new OS brings some interesting improvements for the device. Let’s take a closer look at them below:

The new OS update brings enhancements to camera, animations, and overall usability. Nothing’s community page has added a detailed guide for the new update. Users can also rollback to the Nothing OS 2.6 version, but the brand warns it will factory reset the phone, so its best to backup all your data. We recommend backing up your entire data anyway before upgrading to the new beta version. Here’s a quick rundown of the key changes:
- Lock Screen: Users can now enjoy more customisation options by long-pressing on the lock screen. This includes updated clock faces and extra space for widgets on the home screen.
- Smart Drawer: The new smart drawer feature automatically organises apps into folders based on usage frequency. You can also pin your favourite apps to the top of the drawer, similar to the app drawer found in Realme phones.
- Quick Settings: The update revamps the quick settings menu, with an improved editing experience, a redesigned widget library, and updated visuals for network, internet, and Bluetooth options..
- Camera Improvements: The update brings a range of camera enhancements, including faster launch speeds via the Camera Widget and reduced HDR processing times for quicker, high-quality shots.
- The update optimises portrait effects with refined blur intensity that adjusts based on face size, delivering more natural results. It boosts low-light performance for clearer photos in darker settings and improves the zoom slider display for smoother zoom control.
- Enhanced Pop-Up View: Multitasking is now easier with a movable pop-up view for a cleaner and more productive experience. You can resize the pop-up view by dragging the bottom corners and pin it to the screen edge for quick access. View notifications without leaving your current app by swiping down on incoming alerts to open them in pop-up view (enable this in Settings > System > Pop-up view).
- Other Improvements: The update brings AI-powered app selection to keep your frequently used apps readily accessible. Auto-archive support has been added to free up storage without removing apps or data. Additionally, partial screen sharing allows for more secure and efficient screen recording by capturing just an app window instead of the entire screen.
Nothing has also shared the open beta release dates for its other phones, which are as follows:
- Phone (1): December 2024
- Phone (2a) Plus: December 2024
- CMF Phone 1: December 2024
