Not just Pros, but all iPhone 17 series models to feature 120Hz LTPO displays: report | Tech Tips
Tech giant Apple is likely planning to bring high refresh rate displays across all models of the upcoming iPhone 17 series, as per a new report. Notably, this feature has only been available on Pro models since 2021 and has been a huge talking point for premium phones’ display being capped at 60Hz. This latest development corroborates a recent report that suggested the upcoming iPhones will feature an LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) display, which will likely be supplied by Samsung and LG.
iPhone 17 series display details (expected)
As per a report by ET News, citing an industry source, the iPhone 17 models, which is scheduled to launch next year, will feature LTPO screens, suggesting they may offer a 120Hz refresh rate.
It is said that Apple is expected to introduce a ‘slim’ model, replacing the Plus model, along with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, with LTPO panels featured in all of them.
It is worth noting that the company has used LTPO OLED technology only in the Pro and Pro Max in earlier models, including this year’s iPhone 16 series, which offers better power consumption compared to LTPS technology on the standard variants.
The report notes that South Korean display companies, like Samsung Display and LG Display, are likely to supply OLED screens for the upcoming iPhone 17 series.
While Samsung Display is expected to make the panels for all models of the iPhone 17 series, LG Display will produce the panels for the iPhone 17 Slim along with the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
So far, Samsung Display and LG Display have provided all of Apple’s LTPO screens for iPhones. Apple has also sourced OLEDs from Chinese display companies, but it has only given them some LTPS panels, not LTPO.
iPhone 17 series: what to expect
- Though not confirmed, the upcoming iPhone 17 series is expected to offer a 24MP front camera with six plastic lens elements compared to the 12MP sensor on the iPhone 16 series.
- The series might use TSMC’s 3nm process node instead of the anticipated 2nm process node. Several reports indicate that the 2nm chipset may not be ready for mass production until the end of 2025.
- On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Slim will likely offer a more compact design with a 6.6-inch display and a single rear camera. It is also expected to be equipped with the A19 chipset.
The details regarding the iPhone 17 series are based on speculations, and the company will officially reveal them at the launch. Stay tuned for more updates.
