Nintendo Switch 2 first look revealed | Tech Tips
After months of speculations and leaks, Nintendo has finally given us a glimpse of what the next generation of its popular console, the Nintendo Switch will look like in a YouTube video posted today.
Nintendo Switch 2 design changes
- From the video, it is pretty evident that it is bigger (rumoured to be an 8.4-inch OLED panel), and it has a new Joy-Con design which simply attaches to the console. The bezels are also thinner.
- This marks a departure from the sliding mechanics that debuted on the original Switch.
- Both the Joy-Cons are now black in colour with coloured accents. There is a new button under the home button on the right Joy-Con. There are additional triggers on the back, next to the L/R buttons.
- The power and volume buttons remain on the top left side. There are cooling vents in the middle with a headphone jack and a second USB-C port on the right, besides the original USB-C port below.
- The kickstand has been redesigned with a U-shaped frame which docks at a wider angle.
Dock changes
- The dock has been updated to a more rounded design.
- A separate controller grip that attaches both the Joy-Cons is also present in the newer model.
Game compatibility
- Nintendo has demoed a new Mario Kart game when previewing the console.
- Both physical as well as digital games will be available on the Switch 2.
- The company says many older Switch titles will be compatible with the Switch 2, but not all games will be compatible. Which will not be available remains to be seen.
Nintendo Switch 2 launch date not revealed yet
- Further details are under wraps and the company says it will unveil more in another event titled Nintedo Direct, which will take place on April 2nd, 2025.
- Meanwhile, you can get a chance for a hands-on with the console at limited events that will take place in New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas in April. More details can be found here.
