Motorola Edge 50 vs Realme 13 Pro performance comparison: which budget phone delivers more? | Tech Tips

The Motorola Edge 50 (review) was recently launched in India. It features an upgraded battery capacity and an additional camera compared to its predecessor, the Motorola Edge 40. The Motorola Edge 50 comes with a Telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The phone’s starting price is Rs 27,999, which puts it in direct competition with the newly launched Realme 13 Pro (review).

The Motorola Edge 50 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor whereas the Realme 13 Pro comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor. Let’s delve into a performance-focused comparison to see which phone is best for budget-conscious buyers.

Note: The Motorola Edge 50 comes only in the 8GB+256GB variant, and for Realme 13 Pro, we used the top variant, which is 12GB+512GB, for testing purposes.

Geekbench

The Geekbench test helps us understand CPU performance capabilities. The Motorola Edge 50 scored 1117 in single-core, which is higher than the Realme 13 Pro’s single-core score of 872. Looking at the multi-core scores, the Motorola Edge 50 again scored higher with 3048 compared to Realme 13 Pro’s 2826.

We can see that the Motorola Edge 50 has significantly better single-core performance than the Realme 13 Pro. This test indicates that the Motorola Edge 50 will perform better in day-to-day tasks like web browsing, app opening, and intensive tasks like gaming, photo or video editing, etc.

Winner: Motorola Edge 50

AnTuTu

AnTuTu evaluates overall smartphone performance, encompassing CPU, GPU, memory, and user experience, whereas the Geekbench tests only CPU performance. The Motorola Edge 50’s AnTuTu score is 7,14,295 compared to the Realme 13 Pro’s total score of 6,64,130.

So Motorola Edge 50’s overall AnTuTu total score is higher compared to Realme 13 Pro due to a better CPU score (257215 vs 211534) and better GPU score (163705 vs 119815). However, Realme 13 Pro leads in memory score (177834 vs 131652) as it has a better storage version (UFS 3.1 vs UFS 2.2). Still, in terms of raw performance, Motorola Edge 50 leads ahead of Realme 13 Pro by a significant margin.

CPU Throttle

We use the Burnout app to assess CPU stability under heavy workloads. So, this app runs a stress test on the phone’s processor and gives us a score based on the performance output under throttling. Surprisingly, both phones scored the same 77.0%, which is fairly good.

But when we delved into the test, we found that Motorola Edge 50 provides more performance per watt (96.4 vs 82.7) and a higher compute score (32.8 vs 24.7) than Realme 13 Pro. Motorola Edge 50 also provides more CPU performance than Realme 13 Pro.

Gaming

While benchmarks point towards the Motorola Edge 50’s lead, real-world usage matters most. We tested both phones with Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) and Call of Duty Mobile (CODM) for 30 minutes each. Both of these phones can comfortably play demanding games like BGMI and COD: Mobile. Both delivered similar performance at high graphic resolution settings, making it difficult to say which is better. In terms of maximum graphics settings supported in BGMI and COD: Mobile, Motorola Edge 50 supports “HDR + Extreme” and “Very High + Max” better than Realme 13 Pro.

Notably, both phones come with curved displays, but we didn’t encounter any ghost touch issues during gameplay.

BGMIHDR (Graphics) + Ultra (Frames)35.37HDR (Graphics) + Ultra (Frames)36.45
CODMHigh (Graphics) + Max (Frames)52.74High (Graphics) + Max (frames)50.48

When we talk about thermals, the Motorola Edge 50’s internal temperature rose more during BGMI (8.3°C) compared to the Realme 13 Pro (6.2°C). We got somewhat similar results when we played COD: Mobile, Motorola Edge 50’s internal temperature again rose higher (9.2°C) compared to Realme 13 Pro (6.6°C).

As evident from the picture above, the Realme 13 Pro is better at managing thermals than the Motorola Edge 50. But when we consider higher game settings and similar performance in gaming considering a little higher thermals at times, Motorola Edge 50 has an edge.

Winner: Motorola Edge 50

Verdict

In our benchmarks and gaming tests, the Motorola Edge 50 outperforms the Realme 13 Pro. However, the Realme 13 Pro has better thermal management. If you want a smartphone that delivers great performance under Rs 30,000, the Motorola Edge 50 is the better choice.
