Motorola Edge 50 vs Realme 13 Pro battery comparison: who wins the battery race? | Tech Tips
Motorola has refreshed its Edge series with a successor, the Motorola Edge 50 (review). Its predecessor, the Motorola Edge 40, had a 4,400mAh battery capacity, but for the recent launch, the company bumped the battery to 5,000mAh. Positioned to compete in the highly dynamic mid-range segment, the Motorola Edge 50 also supports 68W fast charging. It competes with another recently launched smartphone, Realme 13 Pro (review), with a similar price tag. The latest offering by Realme 13 Pro has a slightly larger 5,200mAh battery capacity. We recently carried out a performance comparison between these two phones and will check out which one of these delivers a longer battery life and faster charging speed.
PCMark Test
The PCMark Benchmark test measures the time it takes for a smartphone’s battery to drop from 100 percent capacity to under 20 percent. We ran the test at 80 percent brightness to simulate real-world usage. The Motorola Edge 50 took a total of 10 hours and 59 minutes to drop below the threshold capacity, compared to the Realme 13 Pro, which took 10 hours and 48 minutes.
According to the test results, the Motorola Edge 50 should offer slightly better battery life, but the difference is marginal.
Winner: Motorola Edge 50
Video Streaming Test
We played the same YouTube video on both phones for 30 minutes each at 50 percent brightness and volume to assess battery drain. The Motorola Edge 50’s battery dropped 5 percent (250mAh) after the test, while the Realme 13 Pro’s battery dropped 4 percent (208mAh).Based on the test, the Realme 13 Pro’s battery is more efficient during video playback. The slightly higher battery drain in the Motorola Edge 50 could be due to poorer thermal management.
Winner: Realme 13 Pro
Gaming Test
We played BGMI, COD: Mobile, and Real Racing 3 on both phones at similar volume and brightness levels. The Motorola Edge 50 showed an aggregate battery drain of 26 percent (8.6 percent average i.e, 430mAh) during the test, while the Realme 13 Pro indicated a lower battery drain of 21 percent (7 percent average i.e, 364mAh)The Motorola Edge 50 once again incurred a slightly higher battery drain, likely due to poorer thermal management, as heat often consumes more battery.
Winner: Realme 13 Pro
Charging Speed
The Motorola Edge 50 supports 68W fast charging, while the Realme 13 Pro supports 45W. The Motorola Edge 50 takes 40 minutes to fully recharge from 20 percent capacity, while the Realme 13 Pro takes 52 minutes.
Both phones charge at an above-average pace, but the Motorola Edge 50 wins this round with a 12-minute lead.
Winner: Motorola Edge 50
Verdict
From the tests above, the battery comparison between the Motorola Edge 50 and the Realme 13 Pro ends in a tie. The former has a slightly higher benchmark score and offers faster charging compared to the Realme 13 Pro. The Realme 13 Pro, on the other hand, has a lower battery drain in real-world tests. If you’re looking for a new smartphone with good battery life, both the Motorola Edge 50 and the Realme 13 Pro are solid choices. You can’t go wrong with either one. The main difference is that the Realme 13 Pro drains slower, while the Motorola Edge 50 charges faster. Since the difference isn’t significant in either case, the choice ultimately comes down to personal preference.
