MediaTek Dimensity 9400 flagship SoC with an ‘All Big Core’ design, tri-fold display support launched | Tech Tips

Highlights
  • OPPO and Vivo have already announced phones with Dimensity 9400 SoC.
  • Dimensity 9400 has a top clock speed of 3.63 GHz which is lower than what Qualcomm flagship is rumoured to come with.
  • The chip is also said to have Agentic AI, raytracing, upscaling, and “realistic effects”.

MediaTek has announced its new flagship mobile processor called Dimensity 9400 SoC with an AnTuTu score of 3,006,345 under normal temperatures. The chip is based on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process. Moreover, it has a second-gen All-Big Core design (Dimensity 9300 had a similar structure with different cores), which means the octa-core setup doesn’t have any efficiency cores per se. We will get into the core names and clock speeds down in the specs breakdown section.

MediaTek Dimensity 9400 specifications

  • CPU structure: Dimensity 9400 has 1x Arm Cortex-X925 prime core (formerly rumoured to be named Cortex X5) with a frequency of up to 3.63 GHz, 3x Arm Cortex-X4 performance cores and 4x Arm Cortex-A720 performance cores. The clock speeds of the latter two aren’t specified. Meanwhile, the upcoming Qualcomm flagship chip is called Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 or Snapdragon 8 Elite and is rumoured to have 4.37 GHz clock speed.
  • Architecture: It is fabbed on a second-gen TSMC 3nm process node.
  • Memory: The Dimensity processor supports LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.
  • Graphics: You get a 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU with in-house HyperEngine, up to 40 percent faster raytracing performance (than its predecessor), “realistic effects”, an upscaling tech called Accurate Super Resolution (Arm ASR), 41 percent peak performance uptick and up to 44 percent more power efficiency.

  • AI support: The chip features MediaTek NPU 890 along with a Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE) which enables generative AI and applications wherein AI would act as an agent (Agentic AI).
  • 5G support: You are getting sub-6GHz Dual SIM Dual Active 5G (SA and NSA).
  • Other connectivity options: The chipset comes with GPS, NavIC L5, Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 7 (be).
  • Multimedia support: You get support for up to 8K60 10-bit video playable options in codecs like HEVC, AVC, VP9, and AV1 and Miravision enhancement. There is support for up to WQHD+ display with 180Hz refresh rate. It could come within tri-fold phones too.
  • Camera support: The chipset supports up to a 320MP camera with up to 8K60 video recording options.
