JioTV OS for Jio Set Top Box and JioTV+ launched at Reliance AGM 2024 | Tech Tips

JioTV OS has been launched as the software for Jio Set Top Box. It is fully home-grown and boasts several modern home entertainment features like 4K UltraHD with Dolby Vision, Matter-compliance for smart home connectivity, and more. The company has also announced a live TV platform called JioTV+. Let’s drill down to learn more about both of these Reliance AGM 2024 announcements:

JioTV OS features

  • JioTV OS homescreen presents a carousel of various Jio apps like JioCinema, JioStore, JioGames, and JioGames. So, right from the main screen, you can open all these apps.
  • Speaking of apps, you can also access other OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, etc along with Live TV and shows.
  • This new software supports 4K HDR content with formats like Dolby Vision (for visuals) and Dolby Atmos (for sound)

  • It is compliant with Matter standard, which means the JioTV Set Top Box should be cross-compatible with all your Smart Home devices from different brands and seamlessly connect locally, even without the internet. You can control all the connected IoT devices using the JioHome app.
  • The Hello Jio voice assistant is baked into JioTV OS which means you can control the device using voice commands. You can trigger using the mic button on the bundled remote.

JioTV+ features

  • As the name indicates, JioTV+ is a live TV platform with content from over 860 live TV channels (in HD quality).
  • You also get on-demand shows and access to OTT apps like Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Hotstar.
  • You can quickly switch between channels and find personalised content recommendations (based on your viewing habits).
  • JioTV+ also has nifty features like Play-Pause which allows you to pause and resume live TV at your convenience, and Catch-up TV for watching missed shows from up to seven days ago.
  • As for sports fans, the platform offers live stats in cricket matches and the ability to buy tickets, or control camera angles on the go.
  • Last but not least, you can share what you are watching with your friends, discuss shows, and have live watch parties with them.
