The SE lineup is the most value-friendly or affordable iPhone from Apple’s roster. It’s been a while since the last iPhone SE which launched in March of 2022. Now, we are expecting the iPhone SE 4 launch soon perhaps in March. It could be called the iPhone 16e also. Anyway, ahead of its release, a new tip suggests the phone’s global price. Let’s check that out and also understand the five upgrades we expect to see on the SE 4.

iPhone SE 4 global price (tipped)

• Korean publication Naver claims the iPhone SE 4 will cost $500 (about Rs 42,700) or lower. Naver has got this tip from an unspecified Japanese carrier. We have heard the $499 price rumour before.
• The iPhone SE 3 launched in India at Rs 43,900. So, the aforementioned rumoured price of SE 4 is lower.
• The source believes this price drop could be thanks to Apple using its in-house developed 5G modem. In other words, it doesn’t have to pay a licensing fee to Qualcomm (its previous modem vendor). Even the iPhone 16 series has a Qualcomm Snapdragon X70/75 modem.
• Now since this lowers the cost, doesn’t necessarily have to lower the asking price from the end buyer. Let’s see.

Meanwhile, here are the new things you can expect from the new iPhone:

Major iPhone SE 4 upgrades (expected)

• Apple’s own 5G modem: Apple is expected to introduce the new 5G modem (codenamed Centauri) in the iPhone SE lineup as a test before bringing it into the more premium iPhones. This may bring only sub-6GHz 5G (up to 4Gb/s) and not the higher bandwidth and faster mmWave. The Apple modem may consume less power though. The modem could also be powering Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.

• New display: You could get a 6.1-inch OLED panel with a boat-shaped cutout on the front like the iPhone 14. This notch could house the front camera and the Face ID setup. The iPhone SE 3 has an older design with a smaller 4.7-inch LCD panel with a thick black forehead and chin (with the Touch ID module).
• USB-C port: As the EU USB-C mandate has come into effect, Apple will be forced to use a USB-C socket on this phone like it has done on the iPhone 15 series and later. The iPhone SE 3 meanwhile has the older lightning port.
• Improved cameras: The iPhone SE 4 could bring a 48MP rear camera and a 24MP front camera. That would be a big jump from the 12MP rear camera and a 7MP front camera arrangement. So, from the back, it could look like an iPhone 7 Plus.
• Apple Intelligence: Apple would want more of its users to use Apple Intelligence and thus, we could get to see Apple’s AI implementation on the new SE too. To power this, the phone could be running on an Apple A18 chip and 8 GB of RAM.
