There’s still a lot of time before the iPhone 17 series (assuming that’s what the successor to the iPhone 16 series will be called) arrives but this isn’t stopping the rumour mill from bringing out newer details of the lineup. There are rumours that Apple might introduce a new Slim/Air model, This model will be joined alongside the regular iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max variants. Reiterating some of the earlier rumours, the hardware details of the phones have been leaked, courtesy of Haitong International’s Jeff Pu.

For context, the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max are flagship offerings with top-of-the-line cameras and performance, courtesy of a Pro chipset. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Air/Slim if it’s really in the works might arrive as a mid-tier model in the series.

iPhone 17 Slim/Air

• Reiterating earlier reports, analyst Jeff Pu in a fresh research note (via MacRumors) says the iPhone 17 Air/Slim will come with the A19 chipset, which is manufactured on the same TSMC’s 3nm process used for the A18 Pro.
• The chipset is believed to be paired with 8GB RAM. Support for Apple Intelligence could be in the mix as well.

• The iPhone 17 Slim/Air is said to use a 6.6-inch display, which is slightly smaller than the 6.7-inch screen size of the ‘Plus’ model.
• The phone is believed to use an aluminium frame and feature a Face ID sensor for security.
• In terms of cameras, the iPhone 17 Air/Slim may house a single 48MP camera sensor on the back and a 24MP shooter on the front for selfies.
• Lastly, Jeff Pu believes that the iPhone 17 Air/Slim may have a slightly different design compared to the current iPhone models and this variant may replace the iPhone Plus variant, possibly because of less interest among buyers.

iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max

• Talking about the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, Jeff Pu reiterates (via MacRumors) that they would feature a 48MP telephoto sensor. There could be a 24MP shooter on the front for selfies.
• In comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro series has a 12MP shooter for both purposes. 
• The analyst also expects the upcoming phones may house 12GB RAM, an upgrade from iPhone 16, which is believed to pack 8GB RAM.

• In terms of design, the analyst believes that the iPhone 17 Pro Max may feature a “much narrowed Dynamic Island,” courtesy of the phone adopting a smaller “metalens” for the Face ID system.
• if true, this will be the first size reduction of the Dynamic Island post its introduction with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
• The analyst says the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max may use the same display sizes as the iPhone 16 Pro i.e. 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch, respectively. 
• The phones could be powered by the A19 Pro chip, which is said to be manufactured with TSMC’s same 3nm process as used for the A18 Pro chip.

Since the iPhone 17 series is not due anytime soon, we suggest you take these hardware details with a pinch of salt.
