iPhone 16 series users report excessive battery drain even without heavy use | Tech Tips
The iPhone 16 series might have some serious battery issues according to several complaints by users. The iPhone 16 battery seems to drain excessively even without any heavy use. The issue doesn’t seem to be limited to only the iPhone 16 and older iPhones updated to iOS 18 might also face the same battery drain problem, according to a report by MacRumors.
iPhone 16 battery drain issue
- The report highlights complaints made across Reddit, the Apple Support Communities, and even the MacRumors forums where iPhone users have explained similar battery issues.
- According to one iPhone 16 Pro Max user on Reddit, their device lost around 15-20 percent of battery life within 3-4 hours of being idle. More users replied to the same Reddit post sharing similar experiences of the battery quickly dropping from 90-100 percent to less than 60 percent.
- The interesting part is that users think the iPhone 16 Pro Max battery drops when the phone is kept idle.
- A more bizarre experience by one user claims that they left their iPhone 16 (model unspecified) fully charged and unused overnight but the battery dropped to 18 percent in the morning.
- One user even experimented with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro by keeping the same settings and usage. After 36 hours, the 14 Pro battery dropped to 85 percent, while the 16 Pro was at 58 percent.
The cause behind the battery drain isn’t known yet although new software updates are usually the culprit. The iPhone 16 series comes with iOS 18 pre-installed so there could be some underlying issue with the software update. According to some users, the iOS 18.0.1 update and iOS 18.1 beta seem to have fixed the battery drain issue but this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
The iPhone 16 series launched only last month so it’s unfortunate for users to face such issues with something as crucial as the battery. Apple has yet to address it but it should be fixed with a software update.
