iOS 18.1 public beta with Apple Intelligence features released: check out the features | Tech Tips
After rolling out the iOS 18 stable earlier this week to all the compatible models, Apple has now released the public beta of iOS 18.1. This comes following developer-only testing. The main takeaway of this release is the much-hyped Apple Intelligence generative AI features, which are the main discussion point for Apple customers worldwide. However, not all Apple Intelligence features are available right away.
iOS 18.1 public beta is now released for interested users to try out but do note there will be bugs and might not be suitable as a daily driver. Apple Intelligence features will be available only in the US English language. The availability of Apple Intelligence in a language other than English might be available at least from December.
Apple Intelligence features
As said, not all Apple Intelligence features are available right away. The first wave of features includes the ability to transcribe phone calls and audio notes in the Notes app, AI writing tools like proofreading, rewriting, and summarising, email prioritisation and smart replies, notification summaries, and photo clean-up features. You can also create memories using photos through text prompts. There is also a redesigned glowing Siri, which allows you to type requests.
Certain features like ChatGPT integration, Genmoji to create custom emojis, Image Playground for image generation, and a more capable Siri, which brings the ability to understand the personal context will be available at a later date.
How to get iOS 18.1 public beta
As said, the Apple Intelligence features are available with iOS 18.1 update. You need to head over to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and select the iOS 18 public beta option. Shortly, you will see the iOS 18.1 update available on your device.
To enable Apple Intelligence features, head over to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Join the Apple Intelligence waitlist. Compatible devices list includes the new iPhone 16 series, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Besides the phones, iPads running the M1 chip or later, and Macs powered by the M1 chip or later will also get Apple Intelligence features.
