Honor tri-fold phone could be slimmer than Huawei Mate XT Ultimate | Tech Tips
While the Huawei tri-fold phone has been the talk of the town since its release about a week back, its once subsidiary Honor is now said to be gearing up to bring its first tri-fold smartphone. This Honor tri-fold phone is said to be slimmer than the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate. Here’s the scoop:
Honor tri-fold phone design (rumoured)
There have been whispers about the Honor tri-fold for quite some time. But the latest tip about its thickness could turn some heads. The scoop comes from X user Teme (@RODENT950) who claims Honor is aiming for a 10mm thickness (when folded) for its triple-folding phone.
Meanwhile, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate is 12.8mm in the folded state. This could mean the Honor phone will be easier to handle when you fold it. This also means when it’s unfolded, the Honor tri-fold could be leaner than its counterpart.
A big concern with folding phones is that they are thicker than regular candy bar phones which makes them difficult to wield or carry in jeans pockets. Compared to an iPhone 16 Pro Max‘s 8.3mm thickness, the Honor tri-fold will still be thicker at 10mm thickness. But, considering this form factor is still in its infancy stage, we are excited about how slender they could become down the line.
Honor with its Magic V3 smartphone has proved it can make extremely thin folding phones. The Magic V3 is only 9.3mm when folded. That isn’t a lot thicker than the iPhone 16 Pro Max or even Android phones like the ASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
When asked about the Honor tri-fold’s launch timeline, Teme said it could come sooner or later. Meanwhile, Xiaomi, OPPO, and Tecno are said to be working on tri-fold smartphones. TCL has also shown a concept design at MWC 2020.
