Honor patent reveals company working on device that can be folded in different directions | Tech Tips
The foldable phone segment took a new leap recently with Huawei’s tri-folding phone. Soon after, rumours came across about other brands like Xiaomi and Honor also working on their tr-folding phones. We can only expect folding mechanisms to get crazier and Honor might have given us a glimpse of what this future could look like. 91mobiles has spotted a patent Honor has filed for a foldable device that can unfold in multiple directions.
Honor foldable device patent
- According to the patent and diagrams of the Honor foldable device, it can be unfolded in different directions.
- This is different from the current lineup of foldables, which can unfold and fold in only one direction.
- This Honor foldable device has multiple rotating shaft mechanisms allowing it to unfold from different directions. How exactly this would work in reality is still not clear. It only suggests multiple uses for a foldable device with no limitations on the folding directions.
- There are more diagrams of this foldable device of the rotating shaft mechanisms being placed in different styles. All these examples show a centrally located connecting member.
- This is only a patent for now, so it’s not confirmed if Honor will move ahead with developing such a device.
It might be some time until we see such a foldable device on the market. The foldable phone segment is still very niche and on the pricier end. After the current lineup of foldable phones, tri-folding phones would be the next eye-catching devices with even Honor rumoured to launch one soon.
Honor’s rumoured tri-folding phone is said to be even thinner than the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate, which measures 12.88 when folded. Honor is reportedly aiming for a 10mm thickness for its tri-fold phone. Do note that the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate is already very slim for a tri-folding phone. There’s no official confirmation on Honor’s tri-folding phone debut yet.
