Here’s why Nothing Phone (2a) received Android 15 beta update before Phone (2) | Tech Tips
Nothing OS 3.0 update based on Android 15 was rolled out earlier this week for Phone (2a) users. It’s the beta version of the update but brings the latest Android 15 version with new features, UI changes, and improvements. According to the hierarchy, Nothing Phone (2) should have received the update before the budget Phone (2a) since the former costs Rs 37,999, while the latter is priced at Rs 23,999. Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis has explained the reason behind this decision.
Why Nothing Phone (2a) received Android 15 before Phone (2)
- According to Akis’ post on X, MediaTek was faster in optimising its chipset with the Android 15 update than Qualcomm. Nothing Phone (2a) is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC.
- Nothing decided to go ahead and roll out Nothing OS 3.0 beta for Phone (2a) instead of waiting for the Phone (2) implementation.
- The decision behind this was so users could start testing the latest Nothing OS update with Android 15 and give feedback on where the brand can improve for the stable rollout.
Looking ahead, with the strong growth we’ve experienced this year and as we’re scaling our product capabilities, we will be able to reduce implementation times and prioritize our latest flagships. At the same time, we’ll ensure a beta version is available early enough to allow for a swift public rollout.
Akis added that the public release of Nothing OS 3.0 will be available for Nothing Phone (2) and Phone (2a) simultaneously, which should be by the end of this year. Nothing Phone (2) users will get the beta update in November. Nothing Phone (1), Phone (2a) Plus, and CMF Phone 1 users will have to wait until December to get the beta update.
Nothing OS 3.0 brings an AI-enabled smart drawer similar to the iOS app library on iPhones. It also includes a built-in gallery app, a redesigned Quick Settings panel, over 20 new home screen widgets, and a revamped widget library as well. You also get new fonts, animations, and new widgets, clock faces for the locks creen.
