Four Pixel 10 phones and a Pixel 9a reportedly in development, codenames leaked

Four Pixel 10 phones and a Pixel 9a reportedly in development, codenames leaked | Tech Tips

Highlights
  • Google could be continuing the two Pro model strategy for the Pixel 10 lineup.
  • Pixel 10 lineup is expected to be powered by a TSMC-made Tensor G5 processor.
  • Pixel 9a could have a new design altogether.

It’s been not even a month since the Pixel 9 series launched and a report of Google developing its successors is already out. We learn that there will be four new Pixel 10 models, similar to the current lineup. However, before them, we are likely getting a Pixel 9a. Check out the alleged codenames of all five Pixel phones below:

Pixel 10 series codenames and everything else we know

Per AndroidHeadlines, the codenames for the Pixel 10 series are as below:

PhoneCodename
Pixel 10Frankel
Pixel 10 ProBlazer
Pixel 10 Pro XLMustang
Pixel 10 Pro FoldRango

So, like the Pixel 9 series, there will be four models, viz., the vanilla one, two Pro models (XL with a bigger screen), and a folding phone.

The main difference expected in the Pixel 10 series is the design of its underlying Tensor G5 processor. It is expected to be manufactured by TSMC, not Samsung (like the Pixel phones thus far).

From an import declaration form filed by Google, we learned that the Tensor G5 (with internal codename Laguna Beach) will be fabricated by TSMC and that the chip will ship with 16GB RAM. The Pixel 9 Pro lineup has 16 gigs of RAM. So, we suppose a similar treatment to the Pixel 10 lineup.

Coming back to the Tensor G5 chip, we believe it will be based on TSMC’s 3nm process node. TSMC’s architecture is historically known to be more performant and efficient and to have better heat management. So, a rumoured switch to TSMC is promising for Tensor G5 and the Pixel 10 series.

Pixel 9a codename and what we know so far

As for the Pixel 9a, its codename is said to be Tegu. It is expected to launch at Google I/O in May 2025.

Last month, we came across the supposed renders of the Pixel 9a which showed a flat-edge design and the rear camera oblong isn’t as protruding as other Pixel 9 phones. Even the Pixel 8a had a prominent visor on the back.

On the front, the phone could have a bigger display also, as per Display Supply Chain consultant Ross Young.

So, Google seems to be reworking the phone’s exteriors. In time, we should know what it has planned for the internals too. Stay tuned!
