Early Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite benchmark tests hint at overheating issues | Tech Tips
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite is the newest premium chipset for Android phones and OEMs are slowly introducing flagships. We already have the OnePlus 13, iQOO 13, Xiaomi 15 series and the Realme GT 7 Pro. While Qualcomm made some tall claims during the chipset’s unveiling, there seem to be some overheating issues with one of the first devices, specifically the Realme GT 7 Pro.
Realme GT 7 Pro with Snapdragon 8 Elite runs pretty warm during benchmark tests
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 have made some notable advancements with regard to heat management and battery efficiency.
- However, early indications show there might be some overheating problems with the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
- Realme GT 7 Pro, which debuted earlier today, uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and early reports/reviewers are pointing to overheating problems as the chipset is getting pretty warm.
- Folks at Android Authority and Digital Trends report that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite on the Realme GT 7 Pro is running pretty warm and a message has also appeared during benchmarking, particularly the 3DMark Stress Test.
- Phones usually tend to get warm during benchmarks but it has become rare that these days the tests stopped the benchmarking process in the middle because it is running too hot.
- The Realme GT 7 Pro has a dual VC cooling chamber meant for heat dissipation.
- On the flip side, the good news is that outside of benchmarks, there doesn’t seem to be as much heating.
- During a 30-minute gaming session in high-performance mode and screen brightness at full, there was only a “hint of increased heat,” notes Digital Trends.
- Reports indicate that the Realme GT 7 Pro seems to be manipulating the benchmarks, probably to get the desired results. This could be the reason for the overheating issues.
- So it isn’t clear whether this heating issue is specific to Realme GT 7 Pro or will replicate on other Snapdragon 8 Elite phones as well.
Since the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset is relatively new, it will take some time for commercial phones with the SoCs to hit the stores and verify the heating issues. Either way, while the new chipset is quite powerful with raw performance, it appears that the SoC is running quite warm at the moment, at least during benchmarks.
