Android 16 might bring completely redesigned notifications and Quick Settings panel | Tech Tips
The Android 15 stable release date for smartphones hasn’t been announced yet but it’s arriving on Pixel phones in the coming weeks. The latest Android update comes with improvements to media controls, camera experience, support for large screens, and more. Although it’s too early, we already have a glimpse of what next year’s Android 16 might have in store for smartphones.
Android 16
- Android Authority’s Mishaal Rahman discovered a new UI for notifications and the Quick Settings panel that’s expected to be released with Android 16. This was found in the latest Android 15 QPR beta.
- This shows a redesigned UI with the notifications panel now covering a quarter of the screen and not entirely as the current design.
- Google has also removed the Quick Settings panel in the new notifications dropdown menu. However, you’ll still see the app you were using in the bottom half of the screen.
- The interesting thing here is pulling down the Quick Settings panel, which requires using two fingers in the new UI. It’s confusing why Google would opt for such a change but it’s still very early to consider it as the final version.
- The new Quick Settings panel is more or less the same but with some minor changes. The brightness sits on top with a text label and most of the tiles have been made smaller. You can swipe to see the full list of tiles available.
The design is still in the early stages and is incomplete with most of the settings missing in the panel. There’s no word on whether Google will go ahead with this new UI for Android 16 but it does indicate some changes that we can expect on this front.
For now, Android smartphone users can look forward to the latest OS update. Pixel phones will be receiving the Android 15 update in the coming weeks. Other OEMs including Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, and Oppo will also be releasing the Android 15 update in the coming months.
