In case you haven’t got the OTA update, you can download Android 15 firmware from the Android Developers website. Either way, ensure you have a backup of your phone data before you flash the new update. Also make sure the device has enough battery, storage and a strong internet connection while installing the update.
Android 15 eligible devices from other brands
Vivo has rolled out the Android 15-based FuntouchOS 15 update before the Pixels. A reliable tipster claims to have got a stable update on his Vivo X Fold 3 Pro. So, Pixels aren’t the first to get this new Android update.
Vivo’s offshoot iQOO has rolled out the same update for iQOO 12.
Meanwhile, other brands like Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, OPPO, Realme, Vivo, Honor, Nothing and others are expected to release their own Android 15 skins soon.
5 new Android 15 features
- Theft Detection Lock: Theft Detection Lock identifies sudden unusual motions (perhaps caused by someone snatching away the phone) and locks the phone. You can also manually lock the phone from another device using your phone number. Starting Android 15, extra authentication is required to swap SIMs and disable the Find My Device feature.

- Private Space: Think of it like the Secure Folder feature on Samsung One UI. But since Private Space is baked into core Android, it could be more private and secure. You can have a separate instance of apps, their data, notifications, and recent app menu. You can lock it using a pin, password, pattern, or biometric.
- App Archiving: This is akin to a feature on iOS, as it lets you remove the app’s installation and cached files, right from the Settings menu. This helps in saving some storage space. You can unarchive and restore the apps later.
- Better multitasking and navigation: You can share your phone screen without revealing notifications, OTP codes, and login screens (with private credentials). Starting Android 15, when you do the back swipe gesture, you’ll see a preview of the page you’ll be taken to. This lets you quickly decide if you want to move to that screen or not.
- Big device features: Pixel folding phones and the Pixel Tablet lets you create app pairs (a pair of two apps) you like to frequently open in split screen mode. This is again a feature borrowed from Samsung One UI for foldable like the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series.
