Jio, Airtel, BSNL users can now use any network to make calls: here’s how | Tech Tips
The Department of Telecom (DoT) has launched Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) facility at telecom towers across the country. This facility has been introduced at the telecom towers funded by the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN), which was formerly known as USOF (Universal Service Obligation Fund). It will enable Jio, Airtel and BSNL users to access 4G services via the DBN-funded mobile towers irrespective of their TSP (telecom service provider).
Intra Circle Roaming for Jio, BSNL, Airtel
- This newly launched ICR facility will enable Jio, BSNL and Airtel users to make calls and access other 4G services using DBN-funded mobile towers even if mobile tower of their TSP is not available in the vicinity.
- This service was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, while launching a host of other telecom initiatives including the Sanchar Sathi mobile app, and National Broadband Mission 2.0.
- This new service will enable Airtel, Jio and BSNL to provide network services to their customers, even those located in the remote areas of the country, without having to install separate towers everywhere, which in turn would help TSPs save additional costs.
- According to the details shared by DoT, this initiative promises to provide seamless 4G connectivity via 27,000 DBN-funded mobile towers to over 35,400 rural and remote villages in the country.
