Should you buy the Sony WH-1000XM4?
Here’s what we said in our review:
XM4 have resolved most of the issues that were plaguing the XM3. You now have multi-device support, wear detection, better ANC and Adaptive Sound Control that improve on an already near-perfect audio product. There is very little I can say to dissuade anyone of buying the 1000XM4 if they have the budget for it. The Bose NC700, launched last year, are the only real competition and with no successor looking likely soon, there is little incentive in going for them. The only issues I have with 1000XM4 is the microphone quality and the shoddy touch controls. Otherwise, it is music made perfect.
Pros | Cons |
Comfortable wearing | Microphone quality could be better |
Best-in-class noise cancelling | No aptX or aptXHD support |
Great battery life | Touch controls are iffy |
Rich in features |
It’s worth noting that there’s also a successor to the XM4, the Sony WH-1000XM5, but they are currently listed at a much higher price of Rs 25,998 on Amazon. For the price difference, the XM5 bring a brand-new design that looks much sleeker, an integrated processor (IP) V1, a new 30mm driver and enhanced noise cancelling.
If you have the budget, the XM5 are a better choice considering they are the latest but for the rest, the Sony WH-1000XM4 are an easy recommendation at the discounted price.
