MediaTek and Snapdragon to launch their “flagship killer” chipset next year: report | Tech Tips
Taiwanese semiconductor company MediaTek is expected to launch a direct rival to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon “8s” series of chipsets next year. Based on a new leak coming out of China, both the Snapdragon 8s Elite and the new MediaTek chip will be unveiled at the same time next year. Here is the launch timeline.
MediaTek and Snapdragon flagship killer chipsets to launch in April 2025
Digital Chat Station, a reliable tipster based out of China’s Weibo, has revealed that MediaTek is preparing a direct competitor to the upcoming Snapdragon 8s Elite (codename SM8735) chipset. MediaTek is expected to launch this chipset under the Dimensity 9-series. Both the chipsets could be launched in April next year.
OnePlus is expected to be the first brand to adopt this new MediaTek chipset for one of their smartphones. This device is expected to be launched under the OnePlus Ace 5 series. To recall, OnePlus keeps its Ace series exclusive to their domestic market and tends to launch multiple models in the same lineup.
Next year’s OnePlus Ace 5 series device could feature a 7,000 mAh+ battery, a 1.5K resolution flat display, a 0809 vibration motor for haptics and a “short-focus” optical in-display fingerprint sensor. Surprisingly, the tipster also claims that this upcoming smartphone could feature a plastic middle frame, which is a departure from the new Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro launching this month with a metal frame.
OnePlus is expected to launch the OnePlus Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro later this month in China. The OnePlus Ace 5 is expected to be rebranded as the OnePlus 13R for global markets. OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 13 series will launch outside China in January 2025. We are yet to know whether next year’s Ace 5 series with MediaTek chipset will launch internationally, as that’s usually not the case.
