OnePlus, Redmi phones with 7000mAh battery in the works; Realme 8000mAh battery under verification: report | Tech Tips
Smartphone batteries are seeing a shift in technology, with the current generation flagship models seeing sizeable upgrades compared to last year’s models despite maintaining a slim form factor. Soon we will have a 7000mAh battery phone in the form of Realme Neo7. In line with that, the latest leak from Weibo suggests that more brands will soon bring phones with 7000mAh cells.
Bigger smartphone batteries could be in development
- In a Weibo post, tipster DigitalChatStation claims that Redmi and OnePlus are working on bringing out phones with 7000mAh battery.
- He says that all of them will soon be in the 7,000mAh+ battery era. While there’s no explicit mention, iQOO is also said (via) to be working on the same.
- DCS also adds that an 8000mAh battery is also under verification but there are chances it may not be implemented/launched at all.
- For context, Realme was earlier tipped to be working on a phone with an 8000mAh battery with 80W fast charging.
- In a separate post, DigitalChatStation notes citing supply chain sources that next year (2025) the mid-range lineup phones will launch with a 7000mAh+ battery, 2K LTPS Samsung straight screen, and ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.
- However, the tipster hasn’t explicitly mentioned the smartphone names or the lineup that will have the said hardware. We can speculate they may first be adopted by the premium mid-range segment and gradually expand to more models.
Besides the 8000mAh battery, Realme is earlier tipped to be working on a 7,000mAh battery with 120W fast charging and a 7,500mAh battery with 100W fast charging. It’s good news for consumers if smartphone batteries are increased without bulking up the phone’s dimensions and weight. We have already seen a glimpse this year with Xiaomi 15, OnePlus 13, Realme GT 7 Pro, and iQOO 13 flagships.
Here’s a table comparing the batteries of the current-gen with their predecessors.
