iOS 18.2 will let users change default apps across eight categories on their iPhone | Tech Tips
iOS 18.2 is currently in beta phase. The public release is expected to happen next month. The next software version update is already confirmed to include various Apple Intelligence features. However, it is also expected to come with other features apart from AI. Previously, it was reported that the Cupertino-based tech giant is working on a battery-focussed feature. Now, iOS 18.2 will have a new feature allowing users a new way to set default apps on their iPhones.
iOS 18.2 will let users manage default apps on iPhone
- Previously, iPhone users had the option to only choose the default email and browser.
- This is now expanding to more apps.
- The upcoming iOS 18.2 which is currently in the version 4 of beta, includes a new Default Apps section (via) in the Settings app.
- The page will allow users to quickly set default apps for various purposes across eight categories
- Usually, Apple’s own apps including Mail, Safari, Wallet etc act as default apps.
- The expanded list now includes email, messaging, calling, call filtering, browser, password and codes, contactless app, and keyboards.
- As the names suggest, users can choose their preferred apps for messaging, calling, call filtering, opening links and websites, using autofill, using NFC, and choosing between a built-in Apple keyboard or third-party.
- This will give users the option to select non-Apple apps as their default.
It’s worth noting that the number of categories in the default apps page will depend on the region. US users will have the aforementioned eight categories whereas EU users are expected to have more options. Additionally, this new feature is only found on iOS 18.2 beta. If your phone is not running this version, then you will have to wait for the stable release which is expected in December.
