ChatGPT could soon answer questions after looking through your smartphone’s camera | Tech Tips
ChatGPT is constantly working to improve the platform by incorporating new features, such as text-based interactions, voice chat, image, and vision capabilities. Now, a report says a new feature called Live Video, part of OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode, was recently spotted in alpha and might soon come to more users.
In May, OpenAI demonstrated its new Advanced Voice Mode, showing how the system could recognise a dog in a camera feed, remember its name, and more. The demo highlighted how little input was required from the user for the system to understand and quickly respond to the live camera feed.
Notably, the Live Camera feature will let users interact with the AI through real-time video, enabling object and pet recognition, hands-free assistance, and personalised responses.
ChatGPT Live Video feature availability
- According to a report by Android Authority, a number of users have been able to try the Live Video (vision) feature in the alpha version. However, it hasn’t been released to everyone yet.
- The report notes that strings related to the vision capabilities in Advanced Voice Mode were spotted by the publication in the latest ChatGPT v1.2024.317 beta build. These strings suggest the feature may be called “Live camera” when released in beta.
- It also states that users have been warned not to use the Live camera feature for live navigation or decisions that could affect their health or safety.
- Notably, this hints that OpenAI is likely preparing for a beta release soon, possibly for ChatGPT Plus or other paid users. However, the company hasn’t given a clear timeline for the feature’s availability to all users outside the alpha rollout.

It feels like face-timing a super knowledgeable friend, which in this case was super helpful — reassuring us with our new kitten.
