ASUS ROG Phone 9, Phone 9 Pro with Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC launched globally: price, specs | Tech Tips

ASUS has introduced the ROG Phone 9 series, including the ROG Phone 9, the ROG Phone 9 Pro, and the ROG Phone 9 Pro Edition. These gaming flagship phones have the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and up to 185Hz refresh rate display. The Pro model has more mini LED dots on the back for a more programmable matrix. The first-party accessories with the device have also gotten better. Let’s see what else is different and new in this new lineup. But, first:

ASUS ROG Phone 9 series price, availability

ASUS ROG Phone 9 12+256GB model is priced at 1,099 EUR (about Rs 98,274.01) and the 12+ 512GB model carries a price tag of 1,149 EUR (around Rs 1,02,745).

The ROG Phone 9 Pro‘s 16+ 512GB model costs 1,300 EUR (about Rs 1,16,247.69). It comes in a solo variant. 

Besides these, there is also a ROG Phone 9 Pro Edition (yeah it sounds similar to the Pro model). It has 24GB RAM and 1TB storage and ships with AeroActive Cooler X Pro accessory. It is priced at 1,499 EUR (about Rs 1,34,042.53).

The phones are up for pre-order now and will start shipping in different global markets (and China) soon. Indian availability details are not out yet.

ASUS ROG Phone 9 series: what’s new

• A day before launch, we had come across the ROG Phone 9’s AnTuTu scores which was indicative of its performance prowess. This is thanks to the underlying Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC (with a new architecture, Oryon cores, a new instruction set, 40 percent faster NPU and higher clock speeds compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 inside the ROG Phone 8 lineup.) Even the Adreno 830 GPU on this one is 40 percent faster than its predecessor and thus the graphics capabilities of the phone have also improved.
• The performance is aided by a multi-pronged heat dissipation solution which includes a 57% larger graphite sheet (than its predecessor), a vapour chamber, more thermal material, a larger fan, and a rapid cooling conductor. 
• The accessories galore also continue with AeroCase, an optional Chill Case (that redirects audio from the bottom speakers to the front), an AeroActive Cooler X Pro with 29 percent better cooling claim, a subwoofer (for 2.1 sound) and two more shoulder buttons (to back the air triggers on the device).
• The phone’s design has been refined to appeal to gamers. That means a new mini-LED ROG text branding on the back. The Pro model has more programmable LEDs than the regular Phone 9 and its precursors. You can customise these LEDs to project the animations you want and also play 4 games including Breakout, Snake, and Invaders.
• In the Game Genie mode, you get an 185Hz refresh rate (up from the 165Hz refresh rate of the predecessor). This works in select games only. The native refresh rate is 1 to 120Hz (adaptive LTPO).
• The battery size is 300mAh larger which means the 65W charging (the same as before) takes more time to charge the phone (46 minutes to fully top up while previously it took only 39 minutes).
• Coming to the cameras, the phone has an improved 6-axis gimbal OIS on the primary 50MP camera. Another notable difference, or should we say omission is the absence of a telephoto camera on the regular Phone 9 (which the Phone 8 has). In its place, you get a 5MP macro module this time.
