Android 15-based ColorOS 15 announced for OPPO devices: new features, release schedule, eligible phones | Tech Tips
ColorOS 15 is here powered by Android 15. OPPO announced the new skin at its Developer Conference event in China. This comes ahead of the Find X8 series launch on October 24th. So, that’s one phone lineup that would boot with the new ColorOS update. You can find the rest of the supported devices and the release schedule below.
ColorOS 15 features
- Parallel windowing: ColorOS 15 allows opening and using multiple windows simultaneously and should be useful for multitasking.
- Smooth sliding effects: OPPO says the animations and effects (like the sliding experience) will be consistent across built-in and third-party apps. OPPO’s Aurora and Tidal Engine drive these animations.
- Independant notification shade: The notification tray is separated from the Quick Settings panel.
- Inspired features: You get Dynamic Island, a Siri-like “A Key Question Screen”, Google’s Circle to Search-like feature (including one-tap screen queries enabled by screen recognition capability), and a lockscreen theme library (wallpapers, clockfaces, and custom fonts).
- OPPO Share with iOS: You can wirelessly transfer documents, images, and videos with an iPhone.
- AI features: Besides the aforementioned Siri-like feature and the Circle to Search-like feature, you also get Super Xiaobu Assistant (likely limited to China), Google Lens-like photo Q&A, AI Voice Summary, AI Notes, AI sign, AI translation, AI Super Pixel (upscaling), AI blur removal, and AI de-glare.
- Performance optimisation claims: OPPO says games and video calls on ColorOS 15 could maintain 116.7 average FPS (frames per second), 26 percent faster app installation, 50 percent faster app loading, 18 percent responsive and 40 percent more stable animations, and 3x efficient dynamic cache allocation.
- Privacy improvements: OPPO highlights protections for the in-built clipboard, granular calendar access, auto deletion of OTPs after use, and an option to restore original photos. The company notes that AI processing is done in a secure environment called AI Private Computing Cloud.
