The Tecno POP 9 5G has launched in India as the brand’s latest budget phone. The device arrives as a successor to the POP 8 and brings a lot of substantial upgrades over its predecessors. One standout feature is the inclusion of NFC support, a rarity in budget 5G smartphones. Let’s take a closer look at what the Tecno POP 9 5G has to offer.

Tecno POP 9 5G: price, availability

The smartphone is available in two storage variants, a 4GB+64GB and a 4GB+128GB, which is priced at Rs 8,499 and Rs 9,499, respectively. The phone will be available in three colours: Midnight Shadow, Azure Sky, and Aurora Cloud. You can purchase the device starting 7th October on Amazon.

• Design: The smartphone’s body is IP54 rated for water and dust resistance, which should safeguard it against light drizzles and water splashes.
  
• Display: The device features a 6.6-inch LCD panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz, which is a substantial upgrade over the POP 8, which had a 90Hz refresh rate. 
  

• Processor: The POP 9 5G comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 SoC with up to 4GB RAM (up to 8GB with RAM expansion) and 128GB onboard storage. The processor is a significant upgrade compared to the Unisoc T606-powered Tecno POP 8. 
  
• Cameras: The smartphone features a 48MP Sony AI camera along with an 8MP selfie camera. In comparison, the Tecno POP 8 had a 12MP primary camera and a similar 8MP selfie camera. 
  
• Battery: A 5000mAh battery powers the smartphone and comes with 18W fast charging. 
  
• Other features: The phone as per its namesake is 5G capable and comes with NFC support, which is rare for its price. The device also has dual Dolby Atmos speakers, which should elevate its multimedia experience.

The Tecno POP 9 5G is a substantial upgrade over its predecessor, the Tecno POP 8. The device has an upgraded 120Hz refresh rate display and a more durable design with IP54 rating. The device features a 48MP Sony AI camera, which should improve its camera performance in both daylight and low light. There’s no change to its battery as it still uses a 5000mAh cell. 

Another important feature is NFC support, which is not really common in budget phones and will be very useful for UPI payments. The new POP 9 is also 5G capable, which is quickly becoming the new standard for budget phones. Finally, there’s the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, which quite frankly is a great processor for this price and should make the device a standout performer in its segment.
