Tecno is setting the stage for its new budget smartphone launch through Amazon. The phone’s name is Tecno Pop 9 5G and it will be a successor to Tecno Pop 8 4G which launched in India earlier this year. So, a 5G upgrade is evident from its name. But that’s not all. The phone has a dedicated Amazon microsite wherein several key details about the phone have been revealed. Let’s have a look:

Tecno Pop 9 5G is launching in India on September 24th, as teased on Amazon. The starting price of the phone on he microsite is said to be “Rs x,499”, which leads us to be presume it will be priced under Rs 10,000 in the country.

The first thing that caught our attention is how similar the Pop 9 5G’s rear camera design is to the iPhone 16. Yes, the iPhone doesn’t have the surrounding squircle fence, but the vertical arrangement looks familiar. Within the fence, we see a flashlight module too.
The main rear camera is revealed to be a 48MP Sony IMX582 sensor with AI chops. The one below seems to be just a placeholder.
The front side has a central punch hole cutout and noticeable bezels (especially the bottom one).

The right side has the volume rockers and the power button. The latter may sport a side-mounted fingerprint reader like the Pop 8.
The bottom view reveals the phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microphone hole and a speaker grille. The phone has a dual-speaker setup aided by Dolby Atmos.
The phone has IP54 dust and water resistance.
Although only one colour variant has been disclosed so far, we learn that the box will have yellow and blue skins inside.
Tecno Pop 9 5G specifications
- Processor: The phone is powered by a 5G-capable 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor. This is a far better-performing chip than the 12nm Unisoc T606 chipset.
- Memory: Tecno has revealed two memory variants viz: 4GB+64GB and 4GB+128GB. There is 4GB of extra virtual memory too (Memory Fusion).
- Display: On the front, there is a 120Hz screen. Its precursor has a 90Hz panel only.
- Camera: The 48MP sensor is a spec bump over the 13MP sensor on the Pop 8.
- Battery: Under the hood, a 5,000mAh cell is present. This is the same as the predecessor.
- Miscellaneous: Among other things the phone will ship with NFC and an infrared sensor (for wirelessly control devices).
