iPhone 16 Pro Max DXOMark camera test reveals surprising photo performance and overall score | Tech Tips
DXOMark has revealed the iPhone 16 Pro Max camera test results and the phone has been rated to have the best video mode on a smartphone but hasn’t fared well in the photo department. Well, not as you’d come to expect out of an Apple flagship. Find the iPhone 16 Pro Max DXOMark score and breakdown of the test results below:
iPhone 16 Pro Max DXOMark score
- iPhone 16 Pro Max has scored fourth in both global standing and ultra-premium ranking (north of $800 or about Rs 66,754).
- That puts the iPhone behind the likes of Huawei Pura 70 Ultra (1st), Google Pixel 9 Pro XL (2nd) and Honor Magic6 Pro (3rd).
- And yes, in case you’re wondering, it is way ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (26th position). You can check out the full list here.

Pros
- The iPhone’s strength continues to be in videography as it tops the charts with its 4K60fps (variable frame rate) videos. It excels in low-light situations too. This new iPhone also offers unique features like 4K120 recording and a slew of Pro modes that get brownie points in the DXOMark test.
- DXOMark praises the iPhone for its processing, colour performance and editing options. The lab admits it hasn’t tested new features like Undertones and Mood photographic styles but appreciates their presence nonetheless.
- It also finds the iPhone is very capable of taking shots of moving subjects. The zero-shutter lag with the new Camera Control enables quick capture. HDR performance is also good.
- HDR helps in bright night mode shots too.
Cons
- Due to limited depth of field, people at a distance in a group photo can appear slightly out of focus.
- An area where the iPhone particularly struggles is Zoom. DXOMark notes quality inconsistency across different zoom levels and a discernible drop in detail between the 2x and 5x range.
- DXOMark noticed noise and fewer details in the night mode shots compared to rivals like the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra.
- Last but not least, the new 48MP ultra-wide camera hasn’t improved much over the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max.
