The VR/AR headset space might soon get crowded with new models coming from Meta and Samsung. Now, 91mobiles has spotted a patent filing of a wireless charging case for an upcoming Samsung AR headset. As the name suggests this will wirelessly charge the AR headset when aligned in the proper position within the case. The patent listing has design sketches of the case. Check out the details.

The patent was published on September 6th, though it was filed back in February. The patent description shows the divide is filed under the wireless power transmission segment. The sketch images in the listing show a large rectangular box-like case, which is where the AR headset needs to be placed for charging. The image highlights the AR headset lenses need to align with the circular wireless charging coil in the charging case for it to charge wirelessly.

“Various embodiments of this disclosure may provide a wireless power transmitting apparatus where, upon wireless charging, the transmitting coil of the wireless power receiving device and the receiving coil of the wireless power receiving device (e.g., AR glasses) are aligned,” said the patent filing.
Since this is in the patent filing stage at the moment, there’s no way to tell if the company will ever launch the product commercially but from the idea point of view, the device sure looks interesting. If it’s indeed in the works, we should hear more details about the wireless charging case soon.
