Nothing OS 3.0 leak shows complete changelog, new animations and much more | Tech Tips

Android 15 stable is expected to roll out to Pixel phones in a few weeks. OEMs are preparing for the rollout with their own skins based on the latest OS. Nothing’s version will be dubbed the Nothing OS 3.0. While you wait for the build to find its way to your Nothing phone, a new leak has quite literally revealed everything about the Nothing OS 3.0, including every new feature, improvements and more coming with it. Check out what’s on offer.

This is our first look at the Nothing OS 3.0

• Going into details, folks at Smartprix have managed to install a preliminary release of Nothing OS 3.0 on a Nothing Phone 2a.
• The build is based on the Android 15 beta version. So there are chances the final build might be slightly different.

Font: The first major change looks to be the dot matrix font, which is less prevalent than it was before, probably to make the text more readable. In places like Setting the header and lock screen clock, the text and numbers are presented in a stylised font instead of the dot matrix.

However, if you’re a fan of the font, do note that the dot matrix is not going anywhere. Nothing seems to have added the dot matrix font in new places. The lock screen fingerprint sensor also gets the new dot matrix animation when unlocking. There is a new font named “Inter” as an alternative to Roboto.

New boot animation: Nothing OS 3.0 brings a new boot animation. We see the Nothing logo in dot matrix font, which then fades away into a circle. The circle then transitions into what looks like a donut before the final animation completes the boot process.

Control Center: Another big improvement/change in the UI is the redesigned control centre, where the toggles are resizable. One swipe down from the top of the screen will present Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Mobile Data, with further swiping down again will show additional toggles. Swiping left from this page will reveal more toggles. One can now resize them with the ‘Expand Toggle’ button, which is present on the bottom right of the icon. You resize icons in 1×1, 1×2, or 2×2 sizes.

Others: The update also brings a refreshed clock face design of the lock screen which will allow you to enter the customisation page directly by long pressing. It brings support for the auto-archive feature, which automatically archives apps and their data to free up storage.

There is a new option to reset the home screen with just a single tap on the top-right button on the customisation page. The brightness slider has an auto-brightness toggle included. The update brings Predictive back animations for apps that have opted in and the Settings menu layout has been refreshed for a more intuitive experience. The gesture navigation on the home screen has been refined for better sensitivity and extended standby time by Network Power save mode.

There is a new Charging Assist that will tell you if your phone is not charging at maximum speed or if a charging limit has been set. The new Battery Health feature now offers a ‘Smart Charging Mode’ that steadily charges the phone overnight and a ‘Custom Charging Mode’ lets you set a charging limit between 70 percent and 90 percent. 

We get a new Partial Recording function to screen record just a portion of the app instead of the entire screen. Apps with sensitive permission can be closed directly from the control centre. There is a Device Diagnostics feature to test the health of components or the health of another Nothing device.
