Google Pixel 9 Pro XL users complain of corner taps not registering: here’s a temporary fix | Tech Tips

The Google Pixel 9 series is already on sale across the globe and for the first time, there are three models in the series. However, all is not good news for the Mountain View giant. There are complaints from users regarding the wireless charging and a weird camera tilt issue on the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Fresh to join the list are the user complaints about the Pixel 9 Pro XL units not registering screen taps on the corner.

Another Google Pixel 9 Pro XL issue pops up

  • Owners of the Pixel 9 Pro XL are reporting that their units are not registering corner screen taps, mainly when typing on the Gboard keyboard application.
  • The downward-facing icon at the bottom-left corner of the screen that minimises the keyboard is not functional on the Pixel 9 Pro XL even with continuous taps.

  • However, the same area gets triggered immediately for certain features/buttons, as per Reddit users.
  • An alternative solution to closing the keyboard is by swiping the back gesture on the left/right edge of the screen.
  • Some users point out that rebooting the phone will temporarily fix the problem.
  • The issue appears to be software-related instead of the display panel considering rebooting the phone is temporarily fixing the problem.

Comments in the Reddit post suggest that this is a known bug and that Google is aware of it. The issue is apparently that the palm detection on the phone is not configured. “If you put the phone in landscape you’ll see that the area works fine,” said a Reddit user.

As said, rebooting the phone will quickly offer a temporary solution but Google might offer a long-term fix to the issue with the next update, probably Android 15 in October.

Previously, Pixel 9 Pro XL users reported that the telephoto camera seemed to be tilting when switching the zoom range. The issue came to light when recording a video and switching from 2x to 5x zoom, the camera would tilt slightly, despite holding the phone steadily. The issue is reportedly happening in both ultra-wide and telephoto. As per the complaints, the tilted angle would get fixed in a second but a regular occurrence can become annoying even after paying a hefty price.

Similarly, the Pixel 9 Pro XL users are also complaining about how the wireless charging on the phone would start fine but fail after a few minutes. This is happening with a car charger or a battery pack with MagSafe.
