Top five in the market

HP: HP led the market in both the commercial and consumer segments, thanks to market shares of 33.5 percent and 29.7 percent, respectively. The company also secured the top spot in the notebook category with a share of 34.4 percent, courtesy of the increased demand for consumer notebooks and the fulfillment of some key enterprise orders.

Lenovo: Lenovo settled in the second spot and its shipments grew in both consumer and commercial segments by 32.7 percent YoY and 6.3 percent YoY, respectively. It did well in the SMB segment, which grew by 16.5 percent YoY. The demand was good in the e-tail channel and continued push in the SMB segment with a mix of AMD-powered devices in the channel aided Lenovo’s growth.

Dell: Dell Technologies is seated in the third spot as the company struggled in the commercial desktop category, which declined by 15.9 percent YoY. This is mainly due to the pricing pressure from peers in government and enterprise orders. On the flip side, it saw a 6.4 percent YoY growth in the consumer segment. Dell managed good traction in offline channels. The back-to-school/college campaign gave fruitful results, as per the report.

Acer: Acer saw a growth of 38.3 percent YoY growth in Q2 2024. The brand led the desktop category with a 27.6 percent share. Fulfilling key government and BFSI orders helped Acer secure a strong position in the commercial desktop category. The continued aggressive push during e-tail sales helped in the consumer segment.

ASUS: ASUS witnessed a growth of 5.4 percent YoY. The company saw a significant 131.7 percent YoY growth in the commercial segment. The focus on the commercial segment and expanding its offline presence remained the driving force for its performance.

Concluding the report, IDC says the onset of AI PCs and various launches in the past few months has brought a “wave of optimism in the PC market.” While AI PCs may not bring significant demand among consumers in the near future, content creators and gamers might consider them in the medium term.
