MG Motor India could consider bringing the MG 4 EV hatchback to India soon. Media reports suggest the MG 4 EV hatchback will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo 2023. The MG 4 EV could be introduced to tap into the growing interest in the market for affordable EVs. The company will also showcase the upcoming MG Air City EV which will soon make its way to the Indian EV market.

The MG 4 EV hatchback will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo 2023, according to a fresh report from Autocar India. As per the report, MG Motor India will be showcasing the MG 4 EV hatchback alongside the upcoming MG Air City EV and the refreshed MG Hector SUV.
The MG 4 EV has been launched in the European market and identifies itself as a large hatchback. It competes with the likes of other similar large EV hatchbacks such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Kia Niro. The MG 4 EV is 4,287mm in length which makes it just 36mm shorter than MG’s own ZS EV compact SUV. The MG 4 EV however gets a 120mm longer wheelbase as compared to the ZS EV which indicates that space will not be in short supply.
The MG 4 EV hatchback is based on SAIC’s modular scalable platform and has the battery pack as a crucial platform component. The MG 4 EV gets two battery pack options – 51kWh and a 64kWh unit. The smaller battery pack generates about 170bhp while the larger get a 203bhp rated power output. The EV gets a single-motor rear-wheel drive setup. The setup supports fast charging of up to 150kW and comes with a 7kW charger. The MG EV 4 with the larger battery pack gets up to 452km of the WLTP claimed range.
The MG EV 4 will in true Chinese automaker fashion will come loaded to the gills with features and tech. It is expected to get a 10.25-inch central infotainment display, a 7-inch MID, a rotary gear selector, a wireless charging pad, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, and an ADAS suite. On the outside, the MG 4 EV gets all LED lighting, large dual-tone alloy wheels, a sporty roofline, and sufficient body cladding to appeal to SUV lovers.
The pricing of the MG 4 EV is unknown and the EV could come to India via the CKD or CBU route. The vehicle will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Kona EV, Mahindra XUV400, and the newly launched BYD Atto 3.
